Artist: Dimetrious Athas

Biography:
Since 1976 Athas has been painting luminous realistic scenes of catboats, sloops and schooners - the remaining splendors of sail which he feel records their beauty for future generations. Each season Dimetrious participates in many races so that he can accurately portray each race. The final intention is to bring to the viewer the feel of the wind in the sails and the drama of the seas.

Athas is a board member of the AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MARINE ARTISTS (author of the newsletter column "Studio Waves") and was a past vice-president of the INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF MARINE PAINTERS. Images of his painting have been reproduced in both the 2001 & 2000 "Art of the Sea " Calendar - National Maritime Historical Society; Cover of the Friendship Sloop Society's yearbook 2000, "Sea Classics", "American Art Review", "Antiques & Fine Art", "Down East", "Maine Boats and Harbors", and the book "A Gallery of Marine Art" by Rockport Publishing.

Dimetrious Athas has spent the summer following the Friendship, Cat, and Schooner races.

Athas was one of only two living marine artists to be displayed at the FOURTH ANNUAL BOSTON INTERNATIONAL FINE ARTS SHOW in November of this year.
