Biography:
Roy Blankenship received his BAAS in studio art, art education, and art history from the University of Delaware (1973). He was trained in the professional restoration of paintings at the Winterthur Museum (1968-1973). He is a charter and distinguised FELLOW of the American Institute for the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, Washington, DC. He is Chief Conservator of Fine Art at NEHGS, Boston, MA. Roy has been an instructor in art at Ursuline Academy, a painting instructor at Tyler School of Art, and an instructor in art history at the University of Delaware. He wrote, compiled, and published The Delicate Palette of Albert Insley 1842-1937, (Roy's great-grandfather), and edited The Life and Times of Frank G. Speck 1881-1950, (Roy's grandfather), and has written over 100 articles on all topics of the art world. He was curator and lecturer of the traveling Albert Insley Exhibition (1984-'85), and the Francois Coradel Cugat (b.1893 - d.1981) Exhibition Retrospective (1995). Roy is a professional artist member of the North Shore AA(MA), Chester County AA (PA), and Delaware Foundation of Visual Arts Association (DE), Oil Painters of America, American Society of Marine Painters, Professional Artists League, and Salmagundi Club (NYC). His award winning impressionistic marine, landscape, and genre paintings can be found in numerous corporate and museum collections including; DuPont, Hercules, University Museum U of PA, U of DE, Swarthmore College (PA), Peabody-Essex (MA), Wilmington Trust Bank, Delaware Art Museum, and Julliard School (NYC).  Articles on Roy's art can be found in Delaware Today Magazine(1971), Artists USA(1971), Who's Who In American Art(1973), Biographies of American Artists(1974), The Virginian Magazine(1989), US ART (1989), Who Was Who In American Art (1999), Chester County Town and Country Living Magazine(2000), Who's Who In America (2003 - '06), and Who's Who In The World (2004 - '06). Roy is married to artist Lois Showalter.
