Biography:
Growing up on the Connecticut shore, Ken Evans has had a lifelong love of sailing and the sea, and the stately wooden ships that once graced the New England coast. His career path stretches from musician and poet to engineer and attorney; yet in all his pursuits, creativity has been a constant passion. At the law firm he founded in Bethel, CT, the creative impulse was reflected in his work with numerous artist clients. In the mid-1980s it led him to study with distinguished marine artists including John Stobart and Donald Demers.
Today, he brings historic structures and environs to life on canvas, in scenes that honor the past while expressing “feelings and emotions that are not always possible for me to put into words.” Showing the influence of 19th century artists like Lane and Turner, his work is characterized by romanticized yet precise renditions of ships, as well as variability of light, smooth gradations of color, and intense skies.
Now a resident of Yarmouth, Evans often exhibits at the Cape Cod Museum of Fine Arts. He is represented in prestigious fine art galleries around the country and his paintings are in numerous private and corporate collections. He is a member of the American Society of Marine Artists, the International Guild of Realism, and the Mystic Art Association.
