EDUCATION
After graduating from Harvard University in 1963 I spent three and a half years as a U S Naval Officer aboard attack aircraft carriers. With the help of several artist friends I developed a keen desire to delve the secrets and pleasures of painting. I melded a lifetime of boating experience with a passion for maritime history and began to paint the sea and the ships that lived upon it. I came to Salem in 1976 and have lived and painted there ever since.

My marine pictures interpret coastal New England and its maritime history. They focus primarily on vessels that sailed this region's waters around the turn of the last century. They are of racing yachts, tugs, catboats, pilot and fishing schooners, steamers and a variety of working vessels so common then that they rarely drew much attention from artists or photographers of the day yet played an important role in this region's commercial development. in the ensuing years my range of subject matter has broadened to include wildlife, salt marshes, wooden beach wagons and my daughters.

My home and adjacent studio are located hard by the shores of Juniper Cove in the Willows section of Salem, Mass.
