Biography:
From 1953 to 1956, Tom was a scholarship student at the School of Visual Arts, New York City. Following that, he was an instructor for the Famous Artists Schools, Westport, Connecticut from 1957-1960. In 1961, he received an invitational Greenshield's Grant for two years of independent painting abroad.
Tom is an Academician of the National Academy of Design and a Dolphin Fellow of the American Watercolor Society. From 1959 through 2006 he has had more than fifty one-artist exhibitions in New York City, Washington, D.C., Boston, California, Maine and Massachusetts. Since 1960, Tom has painted through the United States and Europe.
Listings include: Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Art and others. Private and public collections include: The Farnsworth Museum, Maine; The Butler Institute of American Art, Ohio; The Peabody-Essex Museum, Massachusetts, and the Hispanic Society of America, New York City. He was also included in the 200 years of Watercolor Painting in America, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City. Tom has maintained a gallery in Rockport since 1962 where his work as well as that of his son, T.M. and Jonathan Hotz are represented.
