Biography:
Dale Ratcliff grew up in Massachusetts and boated as a young girl on
Gloucester's Annisquam River. She was encouraged to paint by Howad Curtis,
a noted marine painter who was also her high school art teacher. She
recieved a degree in art education from the University of Maine. She is a
member of the North Shore Arts Association, Rockport Art Association, Hudson
Valley Art Association, and the Academic Artists. She has judged shows,
demonstrated art principles, and taught workshops for the RAA, NSAA, and
other art organizations. She has won over fifty awards including two Silver
Medals from the RAA and the Jurors Choice Prize from the Academic Artists.
Her works are in a number of private and corporate collections, including
the MBNA Corporation and Liberty Mutual Life Insurance. She is
rerpresened by galleries in Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, and North
Carolina. An article about her work appeared in American Artist Magazine in
September 1991.
Dale's work takes its cues from the hidden patterns and rhythms of
nature, using minimal detail for maximum effect. It is characterized by
lively brushwork and rich color.
