Biography:
Marilyn Swift paints primarily in watercolor, often outdoors on location,
and has
done so for more than thirty years here on Cape Ann. The painting Marilyn
will
offer in this auction will be a new outdoor work, one not previously exhibited.
Marilyn earned her BA in art from The College of New Rochelle in NY and continued her studies at the Boston Museum School, the DeCordova Museum and in various workshops in New England as well as England. She was the recipient of an artist residency grant in Brittany in 2001 and has painted in many places she has traveled including France, England, Italy, Ireland, and South Africa.
Her paintings
have been awarded dozens of prizes, most recently one at the
Salmagundi Club exhibition in New York City. Professional memberships include
The Copley Society of Boston, New England Watercolor Society, Academic Artists,
Hudson Valley Art Association, American Artists Professional League, the Rockport
Art Association, North Shore Arts Association, and Cape Ann Artisans. Galleries
in Maine and Massachusetts represent Marilyn's watercolors.
Her working Studio
and Gallery, open by appointment, is in a converted barn
behind her Gloucester home.
