Biography:
John Terelak is one of America's finest living impressionists, whose career at the easel spans more than 40 years. Working in oil, watercolor and pastel, he has created thousands of paintings whose subject matter is as diverse as the world in which he lives. Whether his canvas captures a scene in New York, Cape Ann or the French countryside, the "Terelak Touch" is unmistakable – an intricate system of layered paint and glazing, dramatic use of color, and rich surface texture. In his own words, "I want the actual surface of the canvas to have a rich patina, a depth and texture that is beautiful in its own right, quite independent of the images and color, light and atmosphere."

In addition to working at the easel, he has served as Director of the Gloucester Academy of Fine Art, and is a past President of the New England Watercolor Society. His paintings are included in private and public collections throughout the United States and internationally – including the Andrew Mellon Foundation, Sheraton Corp., Winthrop Financial Corp., Prudential Insurance Co., Bank of Boston, Shawmut Bank, State Street Bank, Sterling Regal Publishing Company and the Andover Company. He is represented by many galleries throughout the United States.
