FRAMEUP
ART GALA is designed to pay tribute to the scores of regional artists
who capture on canvas the glory of the great Essex fishing schooners
and the eternal beauty of the coastline and waters where they plied
their trade. Proceeds from this project will benefit the educational
programming of the Essex Shipbuilding Museum, which is dedicated to
interpreting the unique history of the town of Essex and its role in
the development of the American fishing schooner.
The idea
for this virtual gallery and fund-raising project actually came from
a conversation I had one afternoon with a couple of painters who had
set up easels in the shipyard at the Museum. Our corner of the Essex
River Basin, and the picture-postcard scenery that surrounds it, has
drawn artists to our site for some 350 years. As I talked with the artists,
the conversation turned to the Museum, and the constant challenge of
funding the Museum’s operations during these difficult financial
times. It was the artists themselves who suggested that an art sale
to raise funds for the Museum could be a fitting gesture of financial
support from the arts community.
Several months and many committee meetings later, we've been overwhelmed
with magnificent artwork contributed by over 50 of the region's many
gifted artists. Their diverse works are available for sale through this
web site. Please spend some time browsing through our virtual gallery
and contact us for more information on the offered work. Our Artist's
Represenatative will be happy to contact you.
Please
enjoy our gallery and check back for details on other offerings. We
promise you artwork you will treasure - just as we treasure this wonderful
Museum of ours.
