Do I Really Need Another Blog?
That's a good question. I already maintain a literary blog at Parlez-Moi Blog and a family cookbook and history blog at Valentine Cookbook. But, after nearly five years of working with individuals, organizations, and small to mid-sized businesses to help them establish a presence in the cyber world, as well as in the real world, I've learned a few things about marketing.
My life before Valentine-Design included 20+ years in advertising agencies and in the art departments of corporations including Enron and Pennzoil in Houston and Stocker-Yale in New Hampshire. I wrote ad copy for a large real estate agency. I designed newspaper ads and created typography for ad agencies. As a freelancer I was involved in ad campaigns to promote everything from baseball cards (at Parker Brothers) to safety light curtains (at Dolan-Jenner). Along the way I've picked up a few skills, learned a lot about what doesn't work, and developed a flexible, solutions-oriented approach to helping my clients create and maintain the image that works for their particular target market.
When I started creating web sites and marketing materials my preferred clients were small businesses, artists, and writers. My philosophy has always been that if I make you look good, that makes me look good! Over the years my client base has expanded but my clients' objectives have remained the same: to create a look and a presence, both on the internet and in print, that reflects their own uniqueness --- at an affordable price.
In a time when template-based web and print design is easy for many people, I still believe that a little extra time and effort is worth it to create an identity and a presence that is as unique as you are. Valentine Design specializes in elegant and affordable web sites, brochures, books, ads, and other marketing materials that show the world who you are. So, in future blog posts I hope to offer information that will help you market your skills, products, services, art, books --- all in a way that sets you apart from the crowd. Let's start with a look at June's web site of the month: Pepperberry's Flowers.
